Free Improv Workshop & Jam! @ Arts at Marks Garage

Start off the new year with some IMPROV AWESOMENESS!

Improvhi will be offering a FREE improv workshop on Monday, January 6th from 7pm – 8:30pm. After the class, participants are welcome to stay to jam with fellow players in a 20 minute “show.”

Great way to meet and mingle with fun folks!

SPACE IS LIMITED.
NO ONLINE RESERVATIONS.
FIRST COME FIRST SERVED.
Must be present to sign up. No “saving spaces.”

Sign ups will begin at Arts at Marks at 6:45pm. Once the list is filled, the workshop will be closed.

Open to all levels! Come out to learn something new or freshen up your chops for the new year. LET’S PLAY!

Intro to Musical Theatre @ Arts at Marks Garage
Feb 5 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

You’ve seen musicals. You’ve seen improv. You’ve seen musical improv and now you’d like to try it, right? RIGHT?

Improvisation is a great way to break out of your shell. MUSICAL improv is a great way to break out of your shell with an extra side of jazz hands!

In this two part workshop, students will learn the basics of musical improv comedy. This class will focus on song structure, on the fly group movement, building want songs, and incorporating songs into scenes.

NO MUSICAL TRAINING REQUIRED*. Seriously. This will be a fun, non-judgemental space where you will be to express your voice the way you want to.

Accompanist will be provided.

Class dates: Monday, February 5th and 12th
Class times: 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Class cost: $60

*Participants should have some theatre or improv knowledge.

In this intermediate musical improv workshop, students will dive deeper into song structure, group singing and scene work.

Prerequisite: Intro to Musical Improv or experience in musical improv

Int/Adv Harold Improv Workshop @ Impact Hub Honolulu

This workshop will focus on the tools and technique of the Harold form. How to effectively generate ideas in your openings, creating fun first beats and then exploring the game differently in second beats, and experimenting with form in group games.

This class is 3 hours long.

Prerequisite:

Must be familiar with the Harold form

About The Instructor:

Ann Maddox has been writing and performing at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater Los Angeles since it opened in 2005. She has performed improv with her Harold team Lincoln’s Bedroom, and written sketches for her Maude teams Nice Kitchen and Hot Mess. She wrote radio sketches for Marketplace on NPR and was a writer/performer for the 2011 CBS Diversity Showcase. She has appeared in several national and regional commercials, and television shows such as The Office, Two Broke Girls, Garfunkle and Oates, The Birthday Boys and Grandfathered.

He is a member of the improvised murder mystery team Murder Murder. He is also the co-host of the podcast Baywatch Watch on Campfire Media. His band The Taint recently played a mini-tour in Tokyo. The Writers Room (for int/adv level sketch comedy writers) @ Impact Hub Honolulu

In this workshop, we will go over different types of collaborative brainstorming as well as the steps that it takes to write a great comedy sketch. Along with these ideas we will also be talking about format and themes found within sketch comedy. Participants should come prepared with a notebook and pen/pencil, a laptop or tablet.

This class is 4 hours long.

Prerequisite:

Must have some experience in sketch writing
