In this class, students will focus on heightening, patterns, third beats and group games to put together a “Harold” showcase at the end of 301c.
Prerequisite: Must have completed Improvhi Level 201c within 1 year.
All classes are 2 hours long. Students will learn the value of “yes, and”-ing, listening, agreement, support, and more in a safe, non judgmental environment.

This workshop will focus on the tools and technique of the Harold form. How to effectively generate ideas in your openings, creating fun first beats and then exploring the game differently in second beats, and experimenting with form in group games.
This class is 3 hours long.

Must be familiar with the Harold form

About The Instructor:
Ann Maddox has been writing and performing at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater Los Angeles since it opened in 2005. She has performed improv with her Harold team Lincoln’s Bedroom, and written sketches for her Maude teams Nice Kitchen and Hot Mess. She wrote radio sketches for Marketplace on NPR and was a writer/performer for the 2011 CBS Diversity Showcase. She has appeared in several national and regional commercials, and television shows such as The Office, Two Broke Girls, Garfunkle and Oates, The Birthday Boys and Grandfathered.

This workshop will go over basics of sketch writing. Examples of sketches will be shown and discussed, and students will pitch their own ideas as well as brainstorm possible beats. If time permits, you may leave with a fully written sketch! Participants should come prepared with a notebook and pen/pencil, a laptop or tablet.

He performs regularly at the UCB Theatre in LA, including the shows Better Movies w/ “Tommy Wiseau” and Nihongo Dake Presents: No Subtitles. He is a member of the improvised murder mystery team Murder Murder. He is also the co-host of the podcast Baywatch Watch on Campfire Media. His band The Taint recently played a mini-tour in Tokyo. Free Improv Comedy Shows in Honolulu! And…IT’S OUR BIRTHDAY!
Improvhi is turning SEVEN this year and we can’t wait to use pants with button flies!
We are playing in a BRAND NEW VENUE for this one and it’s gonna be extra special! We are working with the amazing folks at Creative Industries DBEDT to bring you this fun event. To celebrate this new friendship, we will be doing an improvised musical based off of a very special guest!
