Intro to Sketch Comedy Writing @ Impact Hub Honolulu

This workshop will go over basics of sketch writing. Examples of sketches will be shown and discussed, and students will pitch their own ideas as well as brainstorm possible beats. If time permits, you may leave with a fully written sketch! Participants should come prepared with a notebook and pen/pencil, a laptop or tablet.

This class is 3 hours long.

No experience required

In this workshop, we will go over different types of collaborative brainstorming as well as the steps that it takes to write a great comedy sketch. Along with these ideas we will also be talking about format and themes found within sketch comedy. Participants should come prepared with a notebook and pen/pencil, a laptop or tablet.

This class is 4 hours long.

Must have some experience in sketch writing

About The Instructor:

Zach is an improvisor, writer, and musician from Orange County, California. He performs regularly at the UCB Theatre in LA, including the shows Better Movies w/ “Tommy Wiseau” and Nihongo Dake Presents: No Subtitles. He is a member of the improvised murder mystery team Murder Murder. He is also the co-host of the podcast Baywatch Watch on Campfire Media. His band The Taint recently played a mini-tour in Tokyo. This workshop will go over basics of sketch writing. Students will brainstorm and pitch ideas together and build an original comedy sketch with the guidance of their mentor
Participants should come prepared with a notebook and pen/pencil, a laptop or tablet.

This workshop is 4 hours long with breaks. Participants should bring snacks and water.

About The Instructor:
As an awkward middle child, Joy quickly learned that being funny was the best way to get attention. She went on to double major in Theater/Performance Students and Southeast Asian Studies at UC Berkley, appearing in plays with the UC Berkeley Theater Depart and throughout the bay.
She is a graduate of the improv programs at Upright Citizens Brigade, Second City Hollywood, and iO West and currently performs with several sketch and improv teams in Los Angeles.
TV credits include: Supernatural, Raising Hope, 90210, and Castle. She is also an avid writer and a burgeoning YouTuber with self-written viral video WHITE FETISH boasting over 1 million views.
